Asake Reflects on Grammy Experience and Reveals Personal Insights

Nigerian Afrobeats Sensation Shares Thoughts on Grammy Loss and Personal Relationships

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Ahmed Ololade, widely known as Asake, recently spoke out about his experience at the 66th Grammy Awards, where he was nominated in the Best African Music Performance category but lost to South Africa’s Tyla. Despite the setback, Asake remains optimistic and sees the experience as a stepping stone towards future success.

Asake’s hit track ‘Amapiano’ faced tough competition from Tyla’s ‘Water’, resulting in his Grammy defeat. However, in an interview with GQ magazine, he expressed a positive perspective, stating that the loss isn’t a setback for him. He believes that more Grammy nominations await him, and victory may just be around the corner.

“It [Grammy loss] is not a loss for me. I might just get more next year. In my head, I was not even taking it too seriously,” Asake remarked.

Transitioning to his upcoming sophomore album, ‘Work Of Art,’ Asake delved into his mindset. He explained that the album serves as a platform for his fans to truly understand him beyond the music. Asake expressed that despite his quiet demeanor, he wants people to recognize his humanity and the depth of his artistry.

“People don’t really know me because I’m quiet. So everybody started seeing me as mystery. ‘Work of Art’ is just for them to know me. You have to understand I’m human, but you can’t just deny the heart in me,” he added.

In another revelation, Asake shared a personal story about his relationship with his girlfriend and advice he received from fellow artist Olamide. When Asake shared news of his significant music earnings with his girlfriend and gifted her N2 million, she dismissed it as insufficient. This response surprised Asake, considering her modest background.

Concerned by her reaction, Asake sought advice from Olamide, who advised him to end the relationship and redirect the money to his mother instead. This candid insight sheds light on Asake’s personal journey and the challenges he navigates beyond his musical career.
