Renowned blogger Tasha K, also known as Latasha Transrina Kebe, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy following a judge’s order to pay Cardi B nearly $4 million in defamation damages, as reported by The Neighborhood Talk.
The Grammy-winning artist Cardi B took legal action against Tasha K in 2019, alleging that she had engaged in a malicious smear campaign by spreading false information. The claims made by Tasha K included baseless accusations that Cardi B had herpes, used a beer bottle as a sexual object during her time as an exotic dancer, partook in prostitution, and abused cocaine.
In January of last year, a jury ruled in favor of Cardi B, awarding her over $2.5 million in damages and an additional $1.3 million in legal costs. As per Tasha K’s recent bankruptcy petition, her Chase Bank account held a mere $95. Her personal assets, totaling $58,595.56, encompassed purses, vehicles, clothing, an engagement ring, and business-related items. Fortunately, her house is not at risk of eviction.
Although Tasha K attempted to appeal the verdict, her appeal was rejected by the court in March. Cardi B revealed that the situation had taken a toll on her mental health, leading to suicidal thoughts and straining her marriage. She described Tasha K’s actions as those of an “evil person.”
Reportedly, Tasha K admitted to intentionally spreading false information about Cardi B to further her YouTube network’s commercial interests. The court deemed that Tasha K had not presented sufficient evidence to warrant a new trial.
Lisa Moore and Andrew Pequignot, Cardi B’s legal representatives, expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision, believing that the evidence presented in the case strongly supported the jury’s verdict.
