Grammy-nominated Nigerian artist Burna Boy has made a powerful comeback with his latest summer anthem, “Sittin’ on Top of the World,” released on Thursday (June 1) through Atlantic Records.
This highly-anticipated track marks Burna Boy’s return almost a year after the release of his sixth studio album, Love, Damini, which achieved great success, peaking at No. 14 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album also earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Global Music Album in 2023. Now, with “Sittin’ on Top of the World,” Burna Boy aims to dominate the summer of 2023, just as his hit single “Last Last” did last year.
“Sittin’ on Top of the World” contains a nostalgic touch, featuring a sample of Brandy’s 1998 song “Top of the World,” featuring Mase. The track holds a connection to Burna Boy’s previous hit “Last Last,” which also sampled Toni Braxton’s “He Wasn’t Man Enough.” Writing credits for Brandy’s “Top of the World” and Braxton’s “He Wasn’t Man Enough” include Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, Fred Jerkins III, and LaShawn Daniels, who also receive credits on Burna Boy’s records.
Accompanying the release is a captivating visual that showcases Burna Boy’s journey as an international superstar. Starting from a floating platform during his Love, Damini Tour, the video takes fans on a global adventure, featuring red-carpet appearances before the 2022 Billboard Music Awards, encounters with famous friends such as J Balvin and Damson Idris, electrifying performances, club appearances, and much more.
Burna Boy’s “Sittin’ on Top of the World” will be brought to life during his sold-out London Stadium concert on Saturday, June 3. In addition, the music sensation is set to make history on July 8 at New York City’s Citi Field as the first Nigerian artist to headline a U.S. stadium, a remarkable achievement that further solidifies his impact and global appeal. Fans eagerly anticipate these monumental performances and eagerly await what Burna Boy has in store for the future.
