Renowned music industry executive and talent manager, Don Jazzy, recently revealed his regret for not signing talented singers Teni and Simi. The founder of Mavins Record acknowledged that he had the opportunity to sign Teni but passed on it, and now he deeply regrets that decision. Don Jazzy also expressed his admiration for Simi and admitted that he wishes he had signed her.
In addition to Teni and Simi, Don Jazzy disclosed other missed opportunities in signing top-tier artists. Although he had the chance to sign Davido, he believed that Davido had the capability to navigate the music industry independently. He also expressed his interest in signing Wizkid, but unfortunately, Banky W signed him before he had the opportunity. Don Jazzy had intentions to sign Falz as well, but for various reasons, the deal did not materialize.
Reflecting on these missed opportunities, Don Jazzy stated, “I like Simi, I didn’t sign her. I wish I did. I like Teni, but I didn’t sign her. I wish I did. I had the opportunity of signing Davido, but I didn’t because I kind of figured that I would be fine. Wizkid, obviously. I couldn’t because Banky W got him first. That would have been amazing. Falz, I love his work. We almost had a deal.”
Don Jazzy’s regret highlights the challenges and tough decisions that music industry professionals face when it comes to scouting and signing talented artists. While he may have missed out on signing these exceptional talents, he continues to make significant contributions to the Nigerian music industry through his label, Mavins Record.
