Grammy-Winner Tems Reveals Her Top Dating Deal-Breakers

Nigerian superstar opens up about “red flags,” heartbreak, and the search for a partner who is “curious” and a true friend.

In a candid new interview, Grammy Award-winning Nigerian singer Tems has shared what she simply cannot accept in a relationship, placing genuine friendship and curiosity at the very heart of her search for a partner.

Speaking to Complex magazine, the “Love Me Jeje” hitmaker revealed that she views an unfriendly partner or one who lacks curiosity as an immediate red flag. “My dating terms are: someone who is not trying to be your friend is a red flag. Anybody that isn’t curious about you is also a red flag,” she explained. “Because what are we doing? Why are we here if you don’t want to know me?”

For the superstar, the essence of a relationship is lost without these two foundations. She offered straightforward advice: “If he or she doesn’t want to know more about you, end the relationship.”

While describing herself as a “lover girl,” Tems admitted that past experiences have made her more cautious. For now, her primary focus has shifted inward. “I am more focused on self-love currently,” she shared, indicating a period of personal reflection and growth.

The singer’s honest reflections offer a rare glimpse into the personal life of one of music’s most sought-after talents, emphasizing that beyond the global fame and accolades, she values the simple, profound connections of true partnership.
