Afropop sensation Iyanya has opened up about a deeply personal and challenging chapter in his life, revealing that he grappled with suicidal thoughts due to the immense career pressure and life’s challenges he was facing. The singer’s candid revelation took place during an interview on the latest episode of the “Tea With Tay” podcast, which is hosted by actor Temisan Emmanuel Ahwieh, better known as Taymesan.
Iyanya, known for his chart-topping hits and energetic performances, disclosed that he found himself in a dark place where the weight of his struggles felt overwhelming. He shared that his mental state had reached a point where he was contemplating ending his own life. The artist further elaborated that he had even acquired a harmful substance with the intent to consume it in an attempt to take his own life.
However, fate intervened in a significant manner as Iyanya’s manager sensed something amiss and took action to prevent the tragedy. The manager’s concern and timely intervention proved to be a lifeline for the singer.
Reflecting on the pivotal moment, Iyanya recounted, “I almost committed suicide, my manager stopped me; all of that stuff; madness. He had the master key, he had been calling me; I was not picking. He used the key to enter the room and the first thing he did was to take the sniper from my side.”
