Man Utd Faces £25m Pay-Off Hurdle in First INEOS Transfer Window

Casemiro’s Exit Could Block Manuel Ugarte Signing

Manchester United is dealing with a significant challenge in their first summer transfer window under the INEOS regime. The club’s plans to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte are in jeopardy due to difficulties in offloading Brazilian midfielder Casemiro.

United spent £70 million to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid in 2022, securing him on a four-year contract until 2026, with an option for an additional year. While he played a key role in Erik ten Hag’s successful first season, his performance declined last term.

INEOS had planned a summer clearout to align with Financial Fair Play and the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules. However, offloading Casemiro has proven problematic. Reports indicate that Al Nassr expressed interest, but no official bids have been made.

United is eager to remove Casemiro’s £290,000-a-week wages from their books and are demanding around £30 million for his transfer. Despite informing him that he can leave, Casemiro’s departure is contingent on receiving a significant pay-off, potentially up to £25 million, if he chooses to stay.

A meeting between Erik ten Hag and Casemiro’s representatives is scheduled for this week to resolve the issue. This situation mirrors last summer’s failed £30 million transfer of Harry Maguire to West Ham United, which fell through due to United’s unwillingness to provide a £12 million pay-off.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is hesitant to approve such a substantial pay-off for Casemiro, given the club’s already tight summer budget. This financial constraint could hinder United’s efforts to secure Ugarte, further complicating their transfer plans.
