Manchester United’s £165M Transfer Spree: Four Big Moves in the Works

Branthwaite, De Ligt, Ugarte, and Zirkzee on United’s Radar

Manchester United has ramped up their transfer efforts, making significant bids for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and a PSG star, as part of a massive £165 million plan to sign four key players, according to recent reports.

Following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s takeover at Man Utd, appointing top-tier professionals to senior positions was a priority. Omar Berrada is set to begin as the new CEO, joining Dan Ashworth (sporting director), Jason Wilcox (technical director), and Christopher Vivell, who has been brought on as the director of global talent.

With these crucial roles filled and Erik ten Hag staying as manager, United is focused on transforming their underperforming squad. The club is eyeing a quadruple signing deal worth around £165 million, targeting Jarrad Branthwaite, Matthijs De Ligt, Manuel Ugarte, and Joshua Zirkzee.

United has already reached personal terms with De Ligt and Zirkzee. Bayern Munich is asking for around £43 million for De Ligt, while Zirkzee can be acquired from Bologna for his £34 million release clause. Talks are ongoing with Bologna to structure the deal in a way that avoids paying the full fee upfront.

Meanwhile, United has upped their offer for Everton centre-back Branthwaite. Their initial bid of £43 million was rejected, and the new offer stands at £50 million.

However, Everton remains firm on their £70 million valuation, using the high-profile transfers of Wesley Fofana and Josko Gvardiol as benchmarks.

Additionally, United has made a £38 million bid for PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte, viewed as a potential successor to Casemiro, who is in discussions about a move to the Saudi Pro League. PSG values Ugarte around £51 million, leaving room for further negotiation.

The combined signings of Branthwaite (£50 million), De Ligt (£43 million), Ugarte (£38 million), and Zirkzee (£34 million) would total approximately £165 million if United secures the deals on their terms. However, with Everton’s high valuation of Branthwaite and potential adjustments needed for Ugarte’s transfer, the final cost could be higher.

To fund these ambitious moves, United is expected to sell several players. Donny van de Beek is likely to join Girona, and Mason Greenwood is advancing towards a £27 million move to Marseille. The club is also open to offers for Harry Maguire, Casemiro, Jadon Sancho, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Scott McTominay.
