Manchester City Eyes Rodrygo as Julian Alvarez Replacement, Opening Door for Real Madrid’s ‘Dream’ Signing

Alvarez’s Exit Could Trigger a High-Profile Transfer Chain Reaction Involving City and Real Madrid

Manchester City is reportedly considering a move for Real Madrid star Rodrygo as a potential replacement for Julian Alvarez, who is on the verge of joining Atletico Madrid. The deal for Alvarez is said to be worth an initial £64 million, with add-ons potentially taking the total to £82 million.

Reports have surfaced detailing the reasons behind Alvarez’s decision to leave Manchester City, while transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently provided insight into how City plans to fill the void left by the Argentine forward.

“Man City will now look at options to replace Alvarez, for sure,” Romano stated. “It could be a striker, but I would not be surprised if they end up considering wingers and maybe playing with a false nine when Erling Haaland is not available. Talks are taking place internally to decide on the next move.”

Amid speculation, a Spanish outlet has claimed that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is a “great fan” of Rodrygo and has identified him as a key target. Rodrygo, who last year referred to City as “the best team in the world,” has reportedly caught Guardiola’s eye, raising the possibility of a significant bid from the Premier League champions.

While Real Madrid would prefer to keep the 23-year-old Brazilian at the Bernabeu, the potential sale of Rodrygo could provide Real Madrid president Florentino Perez with the funds needed to pursue his “dream” signing: Manchester City midfielder Rodri Hernández. Perez sees Rodri as the ideal addition to Real Madrid’s midfield, believing that the Spanish international would perfectly fit into the team and bolster their domestic talent pool.

“If a good offer arrives, [Real Madrid] will be forced to accept it,” the report stated. “Florentino believes that if Rodrygo leaves, the attack positions are well covered. With Vinicius and Mbappé fixed, Ancelotti would continue to have Arda Güler, Endrick, and Brahim as companions.”

The potential transfer could have significant ramifications for both clubs, with Manchester City possibly losing a key midfielder to their European rivals if the deal for Rodrygo goes through. The situation remains fluid, with both clubs weighing their options as the summer transfer window progresses.
