Transfer Window Updates: Osimhen, Sancho, and Alvarez Deals in Focus

Chelsea Stalled on Osimhen, Alvarez Sparks Transfer Domino, Sancho’s Future Unclear

Football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has provided the latest updates on several high-profile transfer scenarios, including those involving Victor Osimhen, Jadon Sancho, and Julian Alvarez.

Victor Osimhen’s Potential Move to Chelsea Hits a Snag

Romano reports that there has been little progress on Victor Osimhen’s potential transfer to Chelsea. The deal has reached an impasse, with Napoli’s high asking price continuing to be a significant hurdle. Chelsea remains interested in the Nigerian striker, but a creative solution, such as a loan deal, seems necessary to advance negotiations.

“With Chelsea, I expect nothing will change tomorrow or the next day either, because the situation is still very clear – Chelsea’s interest remains, they are having conversations with Napoli, but the only option for them to continue is with a loan or another kind of creative formula,” Romano wrote on the Daily Briefing.

Despite the current stalemate, Romano emphasizes that “everything remains open” for a potential deal, particularly given Napoli’s ongoing interest in Romelu Lukaku.

Julian Alvarez’s Move to Atletico Madrid Set to Trigger Transfer Chain

Julian Alvarez’s transfer from Manchester City to Atletico Madrid is poised to initiate a series of transfers involving Conor Gallagher and Samu Omorodion. Romano confirmed that Gallagher’s agreement with Atletico Madrid is in place, but his move depends on Alvarez’s completion.

“The agreement is already done between Conor Gallagher and Atletico Madrid, but he is still not flying to Madrid from London, despite the flight being booked on Monday,” Romano said. “That is because everything depends on Julian Alvarez.”

With the Alvarez deal nearing completion, it is expected that all three transfers will proceed soon.

Manchester United Open to Jadon Sancho Departure

Manchester United are reportedly open to Jadon Sancho leaving the club this summer. While PSG has shown interest and held discussions with Sancho, no concrete move has materialized yet. Romano describes a potential transfer as a “possibility.”

In addition, Manchester United could pivot to Denzel Dumfries from Inter if their pursuit of Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui falls through. Dumfries has been linked with a new contract at Inter, but no agreement is expected before the end of August.

“I’m still told that Man United’s focus remains on Noussair Mazraoui as their priority target,” Romano said. “There’s still no agreement with Bayern but the player is also waiting for United, so the right-back story remains with full focus on Mazraoui.”

Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid: City’s Biggest Sale Yet

Julian Alvarez is set to join Atletico Madrid from Manchester City for an upfront fee of €75m, marking the largest sale in City’s history. Romano suggests that Manchester City may not seek a like-for-like replacement for Alvarez, potentially considering wingers or employing a false nine strategy when Erling Haaland is unavailable.

Arsenal’s Pursuit of Mikel Merino Continues

Arsenal remains in active negotiations with Real Sociedad for Mikel Merino, but no agreement has been reached. The Premier League side has yet to make a formal offer, and discussions over payment terms and structure are ongoing. Merino has already agreed to terms with Arsenal, leaving it up to the clubs to finalize the transfer.
