Napoli Nears Agreement on New Long-Term Contract with Victor Osimhen

Italian football club Napoli is reportedly on the verge of finalizing a new long-term contract with their prolific forward, Victor Osimhen. Since joining Napoli from Lille in 2020, the Nigerian international has established himself as a key player and a revered figure at the club.

In his 101 appearances across all competitions, Osimhen has contributed an impressive tally of 59 goals and 14 assists. Notably, his outstanding performance during the 2022-23 Serie A season, where he netted 26 goals, played a crucial role in guiding Napoli to their first top-flight title in over 30 years.

Despite the striker’s achievements, speculations regarding his contract have persisted. Currently set to expire in 2025, Osimhen has expressed his desire to eventually move to the Premier League, where several clubs hold a keen interest in him. Manchester United and Chelsea have been strongly linked to the frontman, as well as Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, who are also seeking to bolster their attacking options.

However, Napoli’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has been adamant about retaining Osimhen’s services and has maintained a firm stance on his future. De Laurentiis asserted that only Paris Saint-Germain possesses the financial capability to tempt Napoli into a potential sale.

With PSG receiving offers for their star player Kylian Mbappe, there is a chance they may pursue a high-profile striker in the near future, potentially making a substantial bid for Osimhen.

As reported by Sky Sport Italia, recent discussions have taken place between Napoli and Osimhen’s representatives. The club is reportedly aiming to finalize the contract terms and make a formal announcement soon. The proposed contract may include a release clause of €150 million (£128.49 million), though Napoli had hoped for a higher buy-out option.

While the exact duration of the new deal has not been specified, it is expected to extend at least until 2027, demonstrating Napoli’s commitment to securing Osimhen’s services for the long term.

During this summer transfer window, Napoli has already secured a significant transfer fee through the sale of Kim Min-jae to Bayern Munich after the Bundesliga champions met his €50 million release clause.
