Non-compliance Could Lead to Fines or License Suspension
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued a directive requiring all licensed telecommunications operators to update their contact details by January 9, 2025. The move is part of the Commission’s efforts to improve regulatory processes, enhance oversight, and strengthen Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.
Compliance Is Key
The NCC emphasized that failure to comply with the directive could result in penalties, including fines, license suspension, or even revocation. While specific sanctions were not detailed, the Commission highlighted the importance of accurate contact information in ensuring effective communication and industry responsiveness.
What Operators Need to Do
Reuben Mouka, the NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, explained that operators are required to report any changes to their contact details within seven days of occurrence. Updates must be submitted via the NCC’s eServices platform at eservices.ncc.gov.ng.
Operators must provide the following information:
- Principal Place of Business: Full address, including postcode, geographic coordinates, and nearby landmarks.
- Mailing Address: If different from the main business location.
- Email Contacts: Active and accessible email addresses.
- Phone Numbers: Updated and operational contact numbers.
- Personnel Details: Names and roles of individuals responsible for regulatory and operational matters.
Aims of the Directive
The NCC stated that these measures are designed to streamline communication and foster collaboration between the Commission and telecom operators. By ensuring up-to-date records, the regulator seeks to enhance industry engagement and ensure swift resolution of issues.
Telecommunications operators are urged to comply promptly to avoid disruptions and support the sector’s continued growth.
