Afrobeats Star Addresses Illuminati Claims, Personal Struggles, and Friendship with Ayra Starr and Tyla

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Rema, born Divine Ikubor, has opened up about the bizarre rumors surrounding his life, his personal struggles, and his vision for the future in a revealing interview with Rolling Stone. The Grammy-nominated artist, who recently made history as the first Black African star to grace the cover of the iconic magazine, didn’t hold back as he addressed the wildest claims he’s encountered online.

Among the most shocking rumors Rema has faced are accusations of being part of the Illuminati, worshipping the devil, and even drinking blood. The “Calm Down” hitmaker expressed his frustration, noting that these unfounded stories have cost him fans. “Random stories have been made up about me being Illuminati, worshipping the devil, and drinking blood,” he said. “I definitely lose some fans who just believe anything they see.”

Rema also shared a deeply personal side of his life, explaining why he wears pendants in memory of his late father and brother. The loss of his loved ones, he revealed, was a defining moment that shaped his perspective. “It was just a dark moment that changed my life, so I always wear this chain—mostly because I never want to forget,” he said. “While any craziness or any fantastic shit is happening, I always remind myself, ‘Know the struggles you came from,’ because, for real, people be forgetting.”

When it comes to his future, Rema emphasized his intentional approach to life. The 23-year-old star made it clear that he has no plans to have children out of wedlock, stating, “I feel like there’s a need for us [family] to get bigger and become a whole empire if we can. And then neither do I want to wait for it to become a mistake before I decide to be a father. I’m very particular, and I don’t really be hoeing around.”

As Rema continues to break barriers on the global stage, his story serves as a reminder of the human side behind the spotlight.
