The Club Legend Expresses Willingness, But No Talks Underway as Los Blancos Navigate Key Absences
Sergio Ramos has expressed his willingness to return to Real Madrid, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. However, no discussions are currently underway between the Spanish giants and their former captain.
Real Madrid is grappling with a severe defensive injury crisis. Eder Militao is sidelined with an ACL injury, joining David Alaba and Joan Martinez on the treatment table. The situation is further compounded by injuries to stand-in center-back Aurelien Tchouameni. With Jesus Vallejo out of favor and Antonio Rudiger as the only senior defender available, speculation about potential reinforcements has intensified.
Reports have linked the club with various options, including promoting younger players like Raul Asencio or seeking reinforcements during the January transfer window. Another possibility gaining traction is signing a free agent, with Ramos’ name frequently mentioned.
The 38-year-old, who departed Sevilla this summer and has been keeping himself fit, remains a free agent after a potential move to Boca Juniors failed to materialize. Despite his readiness to continue playing, Spanish media have downplayed the likelihood of Ramos rejoining his former club.
Tensions reportedly linger between Ramos and Real Madrid’s president, Florentino Perez, following his 2021 departure to PSG. When the idea of re-signing Ramos was floated internally, the board reportedly “unanimously disapproved,” casting doubt on any potential reunion.
Romano, however, suggests the door isn’t completely closed. “No contacts taking place between Real Madrid and Sergio Ramos over a possible return to the club as a free agent,” he wrote on X. “Ramos would be open and happy to return in case of Real’s call. He loves Real Madrid, but no talks so far.”
For now, Real Madrid continues to navigate their defensive crisis with limited options, leaving fans and analysts to speculate on whether the club will make a move for reinforcements—or consider a dramatic return for their legendary captain.
