In a candid interview, the Nigerian singer expresses regret over their past clash and reveals she is open to a private or public reconciliation to “set a better example for women in music.”
In a move that could mend one of the Nigerian music industry’s most notable rifts, singer Seyi Shay has publicly declared she is ready to reconcile with fellow artist Tiwa Savage. The announcement comes after years of tension that famously spilled over into a public argument and diss tracks.
Speaking openly in an interview, Seyi Shay reflected on the origins of their fallout, which many fans linked to her involvement in a Pepsi campaign that Tiwa Savage was previously associated with. Shay firmly clarified that the decision was purely business, not personal.
“That period was purely a brand decision, not a personal one,” she stated. “I have never had any reason to celebrate another woman’s challenge or misfortune. I respect Tiwa’s journey deeply.”
Shay attributed their past clash to the high-pressure environment of the music industry, suggesting that miscommunication and defensive reactions fueled the fire. She admitted that with the clarity of time and maturity, she sees how things could have been handled differently.
“We were both under pressure and navigating a very competitive industry,” she explained. “If I could go back, I would choose communication over confrontation.”
When asked directly if she would be willing to make amends, Seyi Shay’s response was unequivocal. “Yes, I would,” she said. “Life is too short for lingering tension.” She emphasized that healing their rift could have a positive impact, adding, “If having that conversation helps heal narratives and sets a better example for women in music, I’m open to it, whether privately or publicly.”
The dispute between the two stars, which dates back to a viral video of an argument in a Lagos salon in 2021, has been a topic of fan speculation for years. Seyi Shay’s latest comments mark the most direct overture for peace yet, offering hope that the two powerhouse artists could soon turn the page on their past conflict.
