Skales Claims He Wrote Hit Songs for Wizkid During EME Days

The singer reveals collaborative songwriting efforts with Wizkid, including contributions to the ‘Super Star’ album.

Nigerian singer Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, popularly known as Skales, has revealed that he co-wrote several hit songs for his former label mate Ayodeji Balogun, better known as Wizkid, during their time at Empire Mates Entertainment (EME). Speaking on the ‘Curiosity Made Me Ask’ podcast hosted by Bae U Barbie, Skales disclosed that he contributed to Wizkid’s debut album, Super Star, including the bonus track “Wiz Party.”

Skales emphasized the collaborative nature of their relationship at EME, where they often wrote songs for each other. He admitted that Wizkid also penned some of his hits, including the popular track “Mukulu.”

“Back in EME, we were a team, so we used to write songs for each other,” Skales said. “I wrote songs for Wizkid, and he also wrote songs for me. He wrote ‘Mukulu’ for me, and I wrote his song ‘Wiz Party.’ It was all teamwork.”

Both Skales and Wizkid were signed to EME in the early 2010s under the ownership of R&B singer and music executive Banky W. The label played a significant role in launching their careers, though they eventually left after parting ways with Banky W due to reported contractual disagreements. In a past interview, Banky W revealed that Wizkid had yet to fulfill his contractual obligation of delivering three more albums to the label.
