Tiwa Savage Opens Up on Seyi Shay Feud, Denies Blocking Career Opportunities

In a candid interview, the music star traces the years-long rift back to a “diss track” and addresses painful rumors of sabotaging other female artists.

Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has broken her silence on the real reason behind her long-standing and very public rift with fellow singer Seyi Shay. In a revealing new interview, Savage pointed to a 2017 diss track and a subsequent viral salon confrontation as the core of their fallout, while firmly denying she ever tried to hinder another woman’s career.

The feud, which has simmered for years, exploded into public view in 2021 when a video of the two artists in a tense salon encounter went viral. Reflecting on the incident, Savage explained she refuses to be fake. “I’m not going to pretend like you and I are cool in a salon when you did a diss track,” she stated on the ‘Off Air’ podcast with Gbemi O and Toolz.

At the heart of the disagreement were hurtful rumors that Savage had tried to “block bags”—industry slang for preventing others from securing lucrative deals—specifically for Seyi Shay and Victoria Kimani. The mother of one described these accusations as particularly painful. “That was painful, and I didn’t know where it was coming from,” she shared, visibly emotional. “Till today, maybe I need to have a conversation with Shay.”

To debunk the myth, Savage offered a personal example, revealing that she herself was once replaced. “When I got pregnant and had Jamil, I was taken off a Pepsi campaign… and Shay was booked on it,” she explained. “I was taken off because I couldn’t snap back in time. So how am I stopping other people’s bag? I wasn’t even mad. I got in the gym and got my body back.”

Asserting that she is “so pro-women,” Savage issued a direct challenge, asking anyone with specific claims to come forward so she could address them directly, finally clearing the air on a chapter that has long fascinated their fans.
