Manchester City want Erling Haaland to sign a new contract after the striker netted his latest hat-trick, while Manchester United are ‘set’ to free Donny van de Beek…
‘MASSIVE’ NEW HAALAND CONTRACT
Haaland *only* scored three goals in City’s opening three Premier League games of the new season (the big flop), but he has upped his tally to six after his hat-trick against Fulham on Saturday afternoon.
The Man City sensation continues to be linked with a potential move to Real Madrid, with the Spanish giants apparently waiting in the wings before they activate his £172m release clause in 2024.
But according to The Daily Star, City are doing all they can to ensure that this doesn’t happen. The treble-winners are ‘to offer Haaland a massive new contract’ as they will ‘hand the ex-Borussia Dortmund man a basic £600,000 a week deal if he agrees to extend his stay beyond June 2027’.
The Daily Star have done the maths for us and this would amount to a 60.5% pay rise compared to his current £375,000 a week contract. This is ‘intended’ as Real Madrid are ‘huge admirers’ of Haaland, while the Saudi Pro League are becoming ‘more threatening’.
VAN DE BEEK TALKS CONTINUE
Netherlands international Donny van de Beek really needs to get away from Man United so he can have a fresh start. He was an admired player at Ajax but his £40m move to Old Trafford has not worked for anyone involved.
Not even a reunion with ex-Ajax boss Erik ten Hag could upturn Van de Beek’s fortunes and he was always likely to leave the Red Devils this summer.
Van de Beek was heavily linked with Ligue Un side Lorient earlier this week but this move did not come to fruition before the transfer window closed in England and France.
But luckily for the midfielder, the transfer window in Turkey does not close until September 15 and The Daily Mail are reporting that Galatasaray ‘remain in talks’ with United over Van de Beek.
The Super Lig outfit had a ‘£1m loan offer rejected’ by Man Utd on Friday but they are ‘continuing talks over a deal’ and it’s suggested that the midfielder is ‘set to leave’ the Premier League giants.
LLORIS SNUBS NEWCASTLE
One of the more surprising deadline day stories was Newcastle United making a ‘late move’ for Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who is surplus to requirements at the London club.
Amid reports linking him with a potential return to OGC Nice in France, L’Equipe are reporting that Lloris turned down a move to Newcastle United on Friday evening.
The Magpies reportedly made it clear to Lloris that he would be Nick Pope’s backup at St James’ Park and unsurprisingly, this did not appeal to the World Cup winner.
Football Insider are meanwhile claiming that Spurs ‘could terminate Lloris’ contract after he failed to secure a deadline day move’.
The report suggests that there was interest from Newcastle and Nice (who are looking to replace ex-Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel) but Lloris ‘could not agree terms’. The veteran is under contract until 2024 but it is indicated that Spurs ‘could pay him off’ so he can become a free agent.
