Transfer gossip: Man Utd eye Leeds star, Liverpool turn to another Chelsea midfielder after Mount blow

Manchester United could pick off one of Leeds’ best players, while Liverpool are turning their attention towards another Chelsea midfielder with Mason Mount leaning towards Old Trafford…

UNITED TARGET USA MIDFIELDER
Even if it remains unclear who might be footing the bill, Manchester United can at least plan for a summer splurge in which they can guarantee Champions League football next season.

That would probably appeal to Tyler Adams since the Leeds midfielder is currently staring at the Championship. Should the Yorkshire side be relegated on Sunday – it would be a surprise if they weren’t – then the USA international is set to be one of a number of players sold off.

According to Football Insider, United are one of the clubs considering a move for Adams, who joined Leeds last summer for £20million. Under contract until 2027, it is thought the 24-year-old would fetch around £35million should Leeds need to cash in.

With their goalkeeping position still uncertain while David De Gea approaches the expiry of his contract this summer, United are also being linked again with Yann Sommer.

The Red Devils were keen on the 34-year-old last year as they sought cover and competition for De Gea but Sommer stayed at Borussia Monchengladbach until January when he moved to Bayern Munich to fill in for Manuel Neuer.

With Neuer set to return in time for next season, it is expected that Sommer will be on his way, with Bild speculating that United might look again at the Switzerland international. Kicker lists four other potential destinations: Leicester, Monaco, Villarreal and Valencia, though it seems unlikely that Sommer would swap the Champions League with Bayern for the Championship with the Foxes.

SPURS OFFERED REAL DEAL FOR KANE
Of course, above anyone else, United would love to sign Harry Kane this summer. Tottenham’s record goalscorer will enter the final year of his contract and after a ridiculous season wasted on a woeful side, who could blame him for considering his options?

Among them could be Real Madrid. They need a centre-forward as a long-term replacement for Karim Benzema and Cadena Ser says the Spanish club have been offered the chance to move for the England striker as Spurs look to avoid selling to a Premier League rival.

A straight cash deal might be beyond Real this summer as they look to make their budget stretch, but it is suggested that Eden Hazard might be offered in part-exchange. Which certainly isn’t as tempting as it might have been three years ago.

LIVERPOOL CAST EYE OVER KOVACIC
With the top four now out of reach, Liverpool face a huge summer, with their midfield the obvious priority.

Jurgen Klopp needs two new recruits for his engine room, and with Mason Mount now said to be leaning towards Manchester United, the Reds are considering a move for another Chelsea midfielder.

According to 90min, Mateo Kovacic is in Klopp’s sights, with Man City and United also keeping tabs on the 29-year-old. Kovacic, like Mount, will enter the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge and unless a renewal is forthcoming, the Croatia star will be sold this summer to avoid him leaving for nothing in 2024.
