Veteran Nollywood Actor Zack Orji Undergoes Brain Surgery, in Critical Condition

National Figures Extend Support as Actor Battles for Life in Abuja ICU

Veteran Nollywood actor Zack Orji has undergone brain surgery following a collapse at his residence on New Year’s Eve. The actor is currently in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the National Hospital in Abuja, where he is reportedly fighting for his life.

Friends close to the actor revealed that Zack Orji is currently unable to walk or talk, and extensive medical tests have been conducted to determine the nature of his condition. The distressing incident occurred two days ago when Orji slumped in the toilet, adding to concerns that had surfaced in recent weeks as he complained of weakness.

Officials have disclosed that the Minister of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musawa, visited Zack Orji in the hospital, emphasizing the veteran actor’s significance as a national asset. The First Lady of Nigeria, Remi Tinubu, also paid a visit to show support during this challenging time.

Providing an update on Zack Orji’s health, Musawa revealed that the actor had undergone brain surgery after being transferred to a private hospital in Abuja on Tuesday. Urging Nigerians to rally behind the veteran actor, Musawa expressed confidence in Orji’s recovery and called for collective prayers.

“God will heal him and he will be well. We will do all we can to support him. We solicit the collective prayers of Nigerians because he is like a part of our families. We have watched him entertain us and we see him as a national treasure. So the best we can do is to ensure that we support him to have the best treatment,” Musawa said.

Highlighting Zack Orji’s substantial contributions to the Nollywood industry, Musawa emphasized the need for support from well-meaning Nigerians. She called on the administration to consider the welfare of artists and industry contributors, citing Zack Orji’s role in laying the foundation for Nollywood.

“This is not only about the ministry which I am representing. You know that Zack Orji has been in the industry for decades. This is a man who has given his time and effort to entertain Nigerians. He is one of the individuals who laid the foundation for Nollywood and the film industry in Nigeria but now he is sick, and the least we can do as an administration is to give him all the necessary support through prayers and otherwise to ensure that we save his life,” Musawa added.
