Warri Pikin reflects on her 2018 suicide attempt, urging others to seek help and avoid making permanent decisions to temporary problems.
Nigerian comedienne Anita Afoke Asuoha, popularly known as Warri Pikin, has opened up about her 2018 suicide attempt, revealing it was influenced by financial difficulties caused by following the advice of a motivational speaker.
In a heartfelt post shared on her Instagram page to mark World Suicide Prevention Day, Warri Pikin recounted how her husband was plunged into a N22 million debt after being persuaded to try multiple business ventures in pursuit of financial success. The burden eventually became overwhelming for the family.
Reflecting on the dark period, she wrote: “I tried suicide so you don’t have to. On June 6, 2018, at 3 PM, I attempted suicide. I gave up on life because the burden was too much. Life hit me left, right, and center, turning me around like a barber’s chair. I felt like the only way to escape the pain was to end it.”
Warri Pikin used the opportunity to remind others that suicide is not the solution and emphasized that challenges in life are temporary. She also shared a touching tribute to Irene C. Anaenye, the woman who helped save her life during the crisis at Garki Hospital.
In her message, the comedienne urged those battling suicidal thoughts to seek help, stating, “Suicide is making a permanent decision to a temporary problem.”
