Nigerian star prefers Spain and Germany over Premier League move.
Manchester United are reportedly eyeing Bayer Leverkusen star Victor Boniface as a potential signing for 2025, but the Nigerian international appears unlikely to make a move to Old Trafford.
The 23-year-old forward delivered a standout debut season for Leverkusen, contributing to 31 goals in 34 matches across all competitions and playing a pivotal role in the club’s historic Bundesliga title win. His performances have drawn attention from top European clubs, including Chelsea, who explored a transfer in the summer, though Boniface opted to remain with the German champions.
United’s new manager, Ruben Amorim, has identified Boniface as a potential replacement for Joshua Zirkzee, whose struggles in the Premier League have fueled speculation about his departure next year. According to Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Boniface is high on United’s shortlist, though any deal would likely come with a hefty price tag from Leverkusen.
However, Boniface’s comments in September suggest he may not be keen on a Premier League move. Speaking to SportyTV, the forward stated:
“I’m not just saying this because I’m at this level. I’ve been saying this even before I had an international passport or dreamed of coming to Europe. I don’t really like the Premier League.
“I prefer Spanish football, German football. I’m not saying if a good team comes for me I won’t go, but if you asked me to pick two countries I really want to live and play in, it’s Germany and Spain. Everybody has a different choice, but for me, I love the German league and the Spanish league.”
Boniface’s affinity for the Bundesliga and La Liga could make it challenging for United to secure his signature, even as they look to rebuild their forward line. With his preferences clearly stated, the Red Devils may need to explore other options or work hard to convince him of a Premier League future.
